Public Furniture for Transitional Housing in Hong Kong
St. James Concourse, Hong Kong, offers transitional housing for for individuals in need. How do you create flexible and functional furniture that fosters interactions? Fliptable changes can go from a bench to a table in just a flip, allowing quick and easy arranging of the furniture to the users’ liking.
St. James Concourse
The transitional hosuing project of St. James Concourse is a diverse community including single households, families, and elderly couples. They enjoy communal activities such as sharing meals, playing games, and socializing in the yard. When visiting the site however, I noticed the lack of furniture that facilitates these activities and that would allow people to connect.
Concept - FliptAble
The idea is to offer residents a way to connect and feel at home by providing adaptable furniture that suits their preferences. The FliptAble transforms from a comfortable bench into a sturdy table with a flip, serving multiple purposes. Designed to build community, it offers a place for rest and conversation as a bench and a communal space for meals and activities as a table. Made from lightweight recycled polypropylene (PP), it can easily adapt to various configurations, catering to different needs.
